The case for the 2026 season

Written before Week 1, and not revisited. Written 2026-08-21, before a single snap. Every result, injury and trade after kickoff is missing from it. Read it as a record of the argument rather than as a current one.

Two players in the league top twenty, and a quarterback slot that costs more than both are worth

Yes, the number is bad. Atlanta rate 65.7 for roster strength, 27 of 32. Now the rest of it: Bijan Robinson rates 99.7, 5 of 457, and Drake London rates 98.2, 16. Two players inside the league's top twenty, which four clubs in football have. The quarterback slot rates 45.1 and carries 28% of the club figure, and that single fact outweighs both of them.

The arithmetic, so nobody has to take my word for it

Seven slots, seven weights. Quarterback 45.1 at 28%. First receiver 98.2 at 17%. First back 99.7 at 13%. Tight end 90.6 at 13%. Second receiver 56.5, flex 29.9, second back 26.9.

Four of those are excellent and three are not, and the three sit at 50% of the weight between them. That is how a club with two top-twenty players finishes 27 of 32. It is not a slight. It is a description of which positions this roster is good at.

The tight end, valued the way he actually plays

Kyle Pitts rates 90.6, 55 of 457, and the tight end slot carries 13% of the figure, the same as a lead back. A HexScore is a rating against others at the same position, so 90.6 means the fifty-seventh-best skill player in football and one of the best few at his own spot.

I think a tight end who runs a receiver's route tree should be valued as a receiver, and no positional model does that, including this one. Tight-end usage in the scheme profile reads medium. Take that as my objection, filed against a number I otherwise have no argument with.

The backs, and a scheme that muddles the question

Bijan Robinson at 99.7 behind a line ranked 8 of 32 in a zone-run scheme, rush efficiency 0.77 at a 0.47 rush rate.

I believe a zone-run scheme creates back-agnostic production and that individual back rankings inside one are mostly guessing, which is an argument that cuts against my own club's best player here. I am going to make it anyway, because a case that only applies its principles when they help is not a case. The second back rates 26.9. If the scheme is doing the work, that gap should be smaller than it is.

The division, which nobody outside it takes seriously

Strength of schedule ranks 4 of 32 counting easiest first, one of the four softest slates in football. 11 of 17 games are indoors, 4 of 32. The value-weighted age is 25.2, 11 of 32 counting youngest first, with 29.9% of the rated talent under twenty-five. Defensively: pass 13 of 32, rush 26, forward 19. Team Power reads 75, 18 of 32, ten places above the roster figure.

I am sceptical of national dismissal of this division and of the schedule assumptions built on it, and the softest slate in football is worth more to a twenty-eighth-rated roster than to a fifth-rated one. So the case is a division title, argued from a top-eight line, eleven indoor games, the fourth-easiest schedule in the league and two of the twenty best skill players in football. One position stands between that and the number at the top of this page, and everyone in this market can name it without being asked.
