The case for the 2026 season
Second in Team Power, eighth in roster strength, and the two measurements finally agree
Baltimore rate 79.2 for roster strength, 8 of 32, and 98 for Team Power, 2 of 32. Those two numbers read different halves of a football club, one the skill players and one the scheme and the defense, and for once they are saying the same thing. Lamar Jackson rates 98.5 at his position, 14 of 457, in front of a line ranked 4 of 32 and a rush efficiency of 0.92. The argument here is not whether this roster is good. It is what happens to it in January.
Start with the football reason
The offense is a run-pass option scheme at a 0.55 rush rate behind the 4-ranked line in football, with a rush efficiency of 0.92 and a quarterback input of 0.92. Those are not four separate facts. They are one fact stated four ways: a defense that commits a safety to the run in this offense is a defense that has already lost the down, and a defense that does not is conceding 0.92.
I have argued for a long time that a rushing quarterback raises the floor of every skill player around him and that positional models systematically underrate the effect. The measurement now agrees more than it used to. Lamar Jackson at 98.5 is the highest-rated player on this roster and the quarterback slot carries 28% of the club figure, which is the heaviest weight on the page, because a quarterback is on the field for every offensive snap and nobody else is.
The seven slots, in order
Quarterback 98.5. First back 96.2. First receiver 95.8. Tight end 71.9. Second receiver 58.0, flex 46.6, second back 27.0. Three players inside the league's top 25 of 457, and then a fall of forty rating points to the fourth.
2 in the top 25 and 3 in the top 50. This is a concentrated roster and I am not going to apologise for it, because I am sceptical of receiver-room criticism levelled at an offense that deliberately concentrates its throws. A club that runs at 0.55 and posts a tight-end usage the profile calls high is not trying to feed four receivers, and grading it as though it were is grading a scheme against a different scheme.
What the age curve is doing while nobody looks
The value-weighted age is 27.3, 28 of 32 counting youngest first, and only 19.9% of the club's rated talent is held by players under twenty-five. Derrick Henry rates 96.2 at 32, which is the single most load-bearing number on this page and the one I would look at first if I were arguing against the club.
The defense is the honest counterweight. Rush defense ranks 6 of 32 and pass defense ranks 21, which is the bottom third and is not what this market is used to writing down. The forward composite is better at 9 of 32. Team Power at 2 is the blend of all of it and it is carried by the offense, not by the unit this city built its reputation on.
The claim, and the thing I will not do
Strength of schedule ranks 21 of 32 counting easiest first, which is a genuinely hard slate, and the bye falls late in week 13. 13 of 17 games are outdoors.
So the case is straightforward and it stops where it should. This is a top-ten skill group in front of the fourth-best line in football with a quarterback the model rates 14 of 457, and the regular season has never been the thing that goes wrong here. What I will not do is project January from it. January is a different sport played in different weather by a shorter rotation, and a club that has learned that in public more than once should not be asked to pretend otherwise in August. The measurement says this is one of the best rosters in football. It does not say anything at all about the month that matters, and neither will I.
